Rights and accountability – the way ahead for business and human rights
On
21 and 22 November 2011, ECCHR ran a conference in Berlin together with German
Watch, MISEREOR, the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation, the Forum for Human Rights and
the Network for Corporate Accountability. The event, titled Rights
and accountability – the way ahead for business and human rights, was attended by representatives from the political
sphere, NGOs from the global north and south, corporations, trade unions and
academia.

Second workshop on strategic litigation against corporations
Between 22 and 25
June 2011, human rights organizations met in Douala, Cameroon with lawyers,
victims representatives and associations from eight different African, European
and American countries to attend a workshop organized by ECCHR. The workshop,
co-led by Misereor and Brot für die Welt, focused on the theme “Transnational
Corporations and their Responsibilities for Human Rights: The Application of
(semi) Judicial Instruments”.

Workshop on strategic litigation against corporations
In September 2010
ECCHR led a workshop in Bogotá, Columbia, in co-operation with Miseror and Brot
für die Welt (Bread for the World). Twenty Latin American, European and US
organizations participated in the workshop, as did international lawyers and
victims. The 37 participants developed concrete procedural strategies to deal
with the human rights violations committed by transnational corporations.

Corporate responsibility for human rights
On 20 January 2010 the UN Special
Representative of the Secretary General for Human Rights and Business, John
Ruggie, was invited to Berlin to take part in an expert consultation prior to
the Federal Ministry for Economic Co-operation and Development's conference "That's
Right! - Corporate Responsibility for Human Rights."

Guidelines for lawyers: taking victims' concerns into account
Multi-stakeholder consultation on the right to food
On June 19 and 20, 2009, ECCHR organized in Berlin a multi-stakeholder
consultation on transnational corporations and the right to food convened under
the auspices of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Olivier de Schutter.
During the two-day workshop, representatives of civil society organizations,
unions, academia and the business community discussed various issues related to
the right to food and the role of transnational corporations.

ECCHR conference: Transnational corporations and human rights
On October 9th and 10th 2008, experts from around the world came to
Berlin for a conference focusing on “Transnational Corporations and
Human Rights.” The conference provided a forum for representatives of
human rights and development organizations, lawyers, social activists,
and academics to debate concrete effects of globalization on human
rights, as well as the current human rights violations committed by
transnational corporations.
